  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

why is she grinding her teeth

when is she grinding them? lots of rabbits grind their teeth if your petting them and they're happy!

well i heard her grinding them earlier in her cage and she has been doin it most of the day. Also when I got her out. She has a bit of a pooy bum and I thought maybe it was because she didnt feel well

Sometimes rabbit grind their teeth when they are in pain. Has she been eating normally or is she just sitting hunched up in her hutch looking a bit miserable. I would try picking her up and seeing if her tummy feels bloated or tender.

Hi. Is she eating? Does she seem unwell...not moving around much, appearing 'hunched up' with eyes half closed? When a bunny has a pain they grind their teeth. You say your bun has a pooey bum...maybe tummy-ache is the problem. If she is not eating and not behaving 'normally' I would take her to your vet this evening as tummy problems in buns can become serious very quickly. JCO xx

I would take her to the vets to be checked out, its better to be safe than sorry , tooth grinding is often a sign of pain in bunnies

if its a loud grinding then its the sign of pain if its quiet, soft like chattering grind then its when there happy but to me this sounds like she is in pain
becky

Sounds like she is in pain to me too.... :? Aww, I hope a trip to the vets will be able to find whats wrong.. :(

Hmmm, I'd say pain as well - best to go to the vets and have things sorted out as it will put your mind at rest.

Squidgy only makes happy (soft) grindy sounds when he's getting a cheek rub. Any other time he grinds (not for a while, thank goodness!) it's when he's in pain, and it's quite loud and 'cracky'
Hope your bun's ok.
