Ear query

Patches24

Young Bun
I'm a little confused... Patches is always scratching his left ear and when I've look in it and sort of scratched inside for him there's quite a bit of wax. Has he just got a dirty ear or is it ear mites? I wish we got a little handbook with our rabbit as there's various things I just don't know about and would hate it if he was suffering.
Where do they get ear mites from and can they go from 1 bunny to another?
Any adivce or anyone with a similar experience would be great :D

Thank you!

Hi,

I've not seen a bunny with mites myself but I think they get lots of little white bits, a bit like dandruff. Has Patches got that in his ear?
Bumble had an itchy ear and kept scratching it all the time but the vet couldn't see any sign of mites. This was about three weeks ago now and it seems to have cleared up so maybe it's just the wax in Patches' ear?
I don't know anything about where mites come from although I believe they can be transferred from one bunny to another.
Sorry I can't be any more help! Hopefully someone else will have more info then me :)

If there appears to be a build up of wax I think that is a sure sign of mites as my bunnies ears are completely clean! I would take him in to get some treatment if I were you.

Ear infections also present as lumps of what look like wax because rabbit pus is so thick. A normal healthy ear will not have anything in it. You need to take Patches to the vet and get them to look in his ear.
Sunshine was scratching at his and sure enough he had an infection. The vet gave me drops for it and it cleared up nicely. But if you leave an infection it may progress to head tilt which is far more serious. Lace had infections in both her ears when I got her then developed head tilt  I thought at first it was mites. I wish it had been
