  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi guys,

Benji got some Baytril yesterday to try and clear up his one wet nostril. We are having a spot of bother getting it in with the syringe the vet provided and the other alternative she gave was mashing it with banana. The trouble is as they are young they are currently only eating carrot tops and broccoli so i don't want to risk upsetting his stomach.
Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Thanks

Try mixing it with a little apple or pineapple juice and syringing it that way. It tastes a lot yummier then. (make sure it isn't the stuff made from concentrate though, as they put quite a bit of preservatives in that I think). If that doesn't work try putting it on their paw a little bit at a time so they are forced to clean it off.

Hope this helps,
Nicola xx

Wrap him up in a towel and give it via the corner of his mouth. He won't like it but he'll get used to it. Make sure you have some nice treats on hand for afterwards! If that fails, generally getting it in the direction of his mouth/face helps because then he will lick and clean it off (as said above). b-m
