Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. lump on bunnys chin

Hello, i have a male rabbit who is approximately 9 years old. Last night i noticed a lump on his chin. It is red and about 1cm in diameter. I have made an appointment for the vets at 3.20 this afternoon but wondered if anyone had any ideas what this could be? He looks quite sluggish and fed up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the vet thought that it was an abcess and so cut into it. i think its benign. he's given us some antibiotics and we have a checkup in 5 days. he's told us that if it gets any bigger to come back in sooner. They're worried to operate because of his age :-(

Have you asked for a refferal to a rabbit specialist (appologies if your vet is one). My vet has always said age isn't important but the condition of the rabbit is: so a younger, overweight rabbit with breathing problems for example would be at more of a risk than an old rabbit that appears otherwise healthy except for a lump :( .

You could always get a blood test done to see if his liver/kidneys would cope with the anaesthetic.

Sending cuddles to your poorly bunny!

he looks happier today, last night i just gave him lots of cuddles and hay and he seems to have cheered up. at least hes comfortable :) im hoping that when we go back to the vet it'll be something else. thanks for all your replies. xxx

we went to the vet today and she said that the lump is just scar tissue. It turns out he had an abscess and thats why pus came out when the other vet made an incision. I'm so happy, hes going to be okay :)
