Road line painted on dead rabbit

The council were repairing the white lines on the A4142 in Oxford
A council has been criticised after painting a white line over a dead rabbit on a road.
A resident who discovered the creature on the A4142 in Oxford rang the Bill Heine show on BBC Radio Oxford to say the council had "sunk to a new low".

The rabbit, which is stuck to the gutter near a roundabout, is to be removed on Thursday evening and the line redrawn.

An Oxfordshire County Council engineer said the mistake happened in the dark.

'Terrible tale'

Brian Short, area engineer for the south of the county, said: "It's a terrible tale. It happened because the white lining was being done at night to minimise delays to traffic.

"It can be difficult for drivers to see things and the rabbit, being grey, blended in with the road surface.

"Normally a sweeper would be used before painting, but whether it would remove a dead rabbit I don't know."

Mr Short said it was the first time he had heard of such an incident.

If it was grey does that mean it was a pet bunny not a wild one?

I imagine it's more likely he doesn't know what colour rabbits are

My sister lives just off that road! Don't ever drive a car in Oxford - it is a nightmare! No where to park, speed cameras everywhere, crazy one way system, argh!

That is so evil, they can't even be bothered to move it.

How sad!
