Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED: upset bunny tummy

Smudge has been very lethargic all day, just lying around and feeling very sorry for himself.
Brought him inside and gave him lots of tlc.
At first poops where solid but very small, now they are very sticky and very smelly and clumping together in a huge ball. His stomach has been doing lots of rumbling.
Could this be stress related? He had his first encounter with one of the new bunnies yesterday. Or is it something more sinister?
Advice needed ASAP

I'm not sure what to suggest. a little probiotic maybe? At least he is pooping still. Has he eaten much? Some people use infacol for gurgly tummies. Hope someone comes along who can give you more solid advice.

Are you sure these aren't caecal poos? They're meant to eat these, but a disturbance to their routine, or lack of fibre in their diet, may mean they're leaving them around the cage rather than eating them straight away.
They're bunched together and have a wet shiny look to them - http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/san-diego/diet/graphics/cecals.jpg if you want a photo
The other symptoms are a bit worrying, I'd get him to the vet if you're worried, and just try to encourage him to eat lots of hay, and perhaps syringe feed him some soaked pellets if he's not eaten by himself.

I think Smudge could do with a visit to the vets, he needs to be tempted to eat using what ever means is necessary, if his tummy is gurgling 'tummy rubs' are often helpful in assisting the contents of the bowel along its normal route. A probiotic and some recovery may also be useful to give Smudge.

I hope Smudge is better this morning.

When you said "His stomach has been doing lots of rumbling.", are you hearing a lot of noise that sounds like water running in a pipe back and forth?

If so, he has too much gas in his stomach, and he won't eat at the amount of a regular diet.

That can be caused by too much hair in his stomach, in which you have to break them down. I don't know how to do it in 2 days. Which is why I gave my bunny the eyzeme chew to break down the hair slowly.

But a much stronger possibility is he eats too much soft fruits or vegetable, not enough strong fiber to balance it out. If so, just give him 3cc x 8 hr. of Metoclopramide 5 MG.

Inject 3 cc in his mouth. You can get the above from family doctor, prescribed to you. Human and rabbit takes the exact same Metoclopramide 5 MG.

Awwwww poor Smudgey, I would take him to the Vets. Please let me know how he gets on as I love that little chap (even after all the bites he gave me). Give him a cuddle and tell him if he doesn't snap out of it soon you are going to get Aunty Kay to come and see him.
That should sort it

He's still feeling sorry for himself, even after a trip to the vets.
Vet couldn't find anything wrong with him.
He's lying down on the rug as we speak.
Vet said that as long as he is eating, even if he's only picking at food I shouldn't be too worried. Don't trust this vet as it was a locum and not Richard or John the blokes I normally see. His stomach wasn't rumbling and he did not like you touching it (this has always been typical behaviour with him, as when he's poorly he lets you rub his stomach.)

The poops he did last nite where not his usually caecal poops. This was one huge blob that was sticky and extremely smelly, and was plastered all over his tail. Defo not diahorrea as the consistency was wrong.
Today he's done very tiny little poops and there are only a few of them.

May ring vets again tomorrow to see if Richard or John is consulting in the afternoon. I definately need shares in this place, or even a bench outside in my name, as I never seem to be away (weds jabs for Patch and Buster, thurs Smudge, mon buster neuter, weds next week VHD jabs Patch and Buster...... it seems to be at least 3 times a week  )

If you have any probiotics put it in his water as i find it works wonderfully, I also tend just to let any that are iffy just have hay

Little bug-her won't eat hay. Might have to steal some off Kayj as he's only ever eaten any from her.
I've tried him on allsorts of hay. Its not usually a problem due to the quantity of grass he normally consumes in a day.

He's staying in again, so I can poop count and monitor how much he eats and drinks.

Poor little Treacle is missing him like crazy, she's tried to climb in Marmalade and Harry's hutch at bed time tonight  .

there is something definitely wrong w/ your bunny, but I don't believe it is the problem I mentioned above.

I have seen useless vet before, in short, they can't do a damn thing. Find an exotic pet specialist who specialize in rabbit.

RAbbit reacts to health problems a lot faster than cats and dogs. So the sooner you go see a knowledgeable vet about rabbits, the better.

Richard is the specialist small animal vet at my surgery, but its often very hard to get to see him as he's very in demand.

John isn't too bad either, he always rings RWA or his old lecturer if he comes up against something he doesn't know about.

We normally have a female vet in, I haven't seen her for a while so I don't know if she's left. She owned bunnies herself, and probably knew more about bunnies than Richard (and he's been doing it for nearly 30 years).

How is my little Smudgy doing today, I hope he is ok, If you want some hay then you are more than welcome our Smudgy can have anything he wants if it makes him feel better he can even come and bite me if he wants. Let me know how he is getting on as I am really worried about him.

Smudge is still picking at his food.
Went back to the vet with him, saw Richard this time.
He asked what he'd been like, types of food eaten, poop size/ quality, was he hopping around, had his belly been rumbling... all the usual stuff (but more detailed than previous numpty vet). Richard listened to his tummy and had a good prod around.. it made me feel better when he kicked Richard (he always does it to me  and usually for no reason).
Richard has told me to monitor him over the weekend and to keep a check on poops and amount of food eaten.
He didn't want to give him anything just yet as he wanted to see if Smudge would come round on his own.
Smudge looks thoroughly depressed all the time, more so than usual for my moody little guy. Vet thinks the presence of the new rabbits may be distressing him.
He's eaten more today than he did yesterday, and he wanted to go outside. Put him outside and all he has done is sit and watch the others play.

He wasn't like that at mine he didn't mind all the other buns infact he use to nose to nose with them. He is definately a little ******.

How is my little Smudgey doing today? Give him a big cuddle and Hug from us all here.
Love
Kayxx

Weird day for Smudgy today.
This morning he was all depressed and sad.
This afternoon a bit more interested in his surroundings.
This evening....... a little s*** who would not go into his hutch and had me running around the garden trying to catch him.
Afraid that come tomorrow he'll be back feeling sorry for himself.
