Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lilly has weird hair..........

Vianne

hey gys just looking for some advice,

I've started to notice that Lilly (my lop) has small tufts of hair coming out (or sticking out as if it's gonna come out) at the bottom of her back (just above her tail)

It looks real strange as if its just loose and ready to fall out! Does anyone know what this could be??

It's sounds as though she is moulting! My buns get this just around there bums and it's just moult. if you give it a gentle pull does it come out??

Watch out though, I find it really addictive and find myself standing for ages plucking out all the loose hairs from my rex much to her displeasure :p  I've heard if you dampen your hands or a cloth and wipe it over their backs the hair comes off easier, just makes sure you don't pluck hairs that aren't pluckable!

I'm glad to hear that there is someone else who can't help plucking, Neesh. It's stronger than me, I know they don't appreciate it but when I see the fur coming out I keep thinking that when they clean themselves they'll eat it and it could cause problems to their digestive tract and I find myself picking them up for a good pluck!

Vianne, I think the reason it is so noticeable above the tail is because it is a hard area for them to reach when they are grooming themselves.
