  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have just had both my male rabbits "done", they are brothers and have never been seperated. One brother used to hump the other so we thought it best to go ahead with the operation on both. Its been less than 24 hours since the op and the roles seem to have been reversed, Bert is now humping Ernie. I also thought that it would stop Ernie biting, he started this about a month ago, and its getting to the point where he goes for me for no reason at all when I let him out. I let them out today, he was fine, he was by the side of me, I stroked him for a while, then he just went for me. Please help, Im really stuck with what to do next!

You will need to wait for the hormones to die down which can take up to 8 weeks average is about 6

Yup I'm afraid it takes time! Cosmos was very persistant and humped and sprayed poor Violet for nearly a month after the op. Then it started to die off slowly before totally stopping. Occasionaly the smell of another bunny will set them off a bit but it calms down again after a few minutes.
