  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My rabbit is'nt eating much and is'nt pooing or weeing - well I suppose he could be he has run of the garden and he could be pooing or weeing anywhere but he usually does it at one particular place in the garden and there is very little poos. In his cage of a morning there is no poos or wees!

The trouble is his teeth- they are long and he is having a dental on monday to sort them out, could this be why hes not eating (obviously) and pooing or weeing.

What exactly is Gut Statis?

Poppys very lively and running around like normal its just hes not eating a great deal but a little and pooing and weeing very little.

gut -stasis is when a rabbits insides stop working properly.
a rabbit under stress or in pain is at risk and so is a rabbit who doesnt eat for any length of time. if your rabbit is not eating he needs the vet right away .

if your bun is due to have his teeth done but not eating you could keep him going by giving him soft foods ( pellets soaked in water or baby food) if he wont eat this you could get a syringe from the vet and feed him pureed fruit or veg , baby food or soaked and mashed pellets. he doesnt need a lot at a time. just little and often. fresh pinapple juice diluted in water is also good.

with gut - stasis a rabbits decline can be very fast. your vet can give an injection to try and kick start it .this does not always work and prevention is better than a cure.
