Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

China's teeth don't line up

Amethyst

Warren Veteran
Hi all,

When I took China to the vets on 21st August for her first vaccine, the vet gave her a check-up. He said that her back teeth didn't line up properly and that she could develop spurs. He recommended a check-up after three months, which we will go to of course, but I thought I'd post here in case there is anything I can do to help her in the meantime. Could any other bunny owners who have had this problem give me any advice please?

Many thanks!

The only way to help prevent them is hay, hay, grass and more hay!

If you feel she isn't eating enough hay cut back on her other food a bit!

Chewsticks from natural wood such as apple may also help and tough leaves like Bramble!

Thanks Caz! Thankfully China is the biggest hay and dried grass eater out of all four bunnies, and she's on Supa Rabbit Excel pellets (they only get a small amount so they eat lots of hay) which the vet said was good at wearing down back teeth anyway. So hopefully that'll be fine!

I'll try her on chewsticks too. Thanks!

my boy timber had to have his front teeth taken out and he suffers from getting spurs on his teeth too! i am guessing it is because he was fed properly at his last home, so as caz has said the more hay she eats the better.
