  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

April had to go to the vets today

April has been sneezing on and off for about three weeks now - yesterday she started with a strange snorting noise :? There has never been any discharge at all from her nose and she is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing well - she is playing as well and gets out in the garden most days for a good run with Timmy :)
John took April to the vets this afternoon and Sally says that it is not on her chest - the noise is definitely coming from the upper respiratory tract :? April may have something up her nose but if it was grass or hay she would have a discharge.
Sally wants her in next week for a whiff of gas so that she can have a look at her - she may have a polyp up her nose :?
Will let you all know how she gets on - she looks so healthy and bright but this snorting noise is there all the time now :?

She isn't sneezing a lot especially after drinking/eating or rasping for breath but with a clear chest is she?

It is just my first rabbit Fudge sounded like he had snuffles but his chest was clear and there was no discharge. The vets tried treating for snuffles but it did no good. Eventually I was referred to a specialist and by this time Fudge was struggling to breath. An x-ray showed an abcess at the base of his nasopharnyx blocking his nose and throat.
