  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Huffing

Young Bun
I was petting Lucky this morning, just like I always do, and I heard an odd "huff." It was a short, quick breathing noise, only lasting a second. At first, I wasn't sure if it was him, or if he had shuffled the newspaper by his feet. Then moments later, he did it again, and I saw his mouth twich as he did so. So it wasn't the newspaper. Do you know what this could mean?

Maybe it was a little cough or hiccup? I'm really not sure what it could of been  Has he done it again since? Hopefully it was just a one off thing and it doesn't mean anything :D

He didnt do it this morning, so maybe it was just a one-time thing. Do you think I should take him to the vet just in case?

It wouldn't hurt to take him to the vet just for a well being check as they can listen to his heart and lungs and make sure he is fit and healthy :) However, they may not be able to let you know why he made the noise if he has stopped doing it now. I'm sure he is fine but a vet visit would help give you peace of mind :D
