  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

anybody claimed on pet insurance for snuffles?

Just wondered if anybody here has claimed on their pet insurance for snuffles.

Our excess is £60 but by Friday our accumulated bill will be £120. The vet says we can definitely claim...I'm yet to phone pet plan (will tomorrow) but I've read through the docs and I cant see anything that says no.

But I just wonder where the treatment costs end and re-start. The vet says I can accumulate all the costs which have been £30 for jabs and baytril, £50 for further jabs and a swab, £20 for another jab and "good bacteria" sachets and then another 2 jabs at least to come £20. So what if I have nothing but then eeyore needs another jab a month down the line because of snuffles? Does this tap on the end? Or does it start from fresh and I cant claim cos of excess?

I think that it counts as one illness as long as you can get the vet to say it is a chronic problem (should be one excess). However some insurance companies have a limit for one particular complaint and when it reaches that monetary value they stop paying out. Other insurance companies cover chronic complaints for the life of the animal.
