Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Urine...

Young Bun
This morning I found that there was dark brown urine and some poo in Lucky's food bowl. He hasn't ever done this before. He is 5 months, and un-neutered. Is there any way I can stop this? Also, what is causing his urine to be so dark?

No, I was told that he may be too young to get neutered, so I have to wait a while. But is there any thing else I can do to stop this behaviour?

He gets a bottle of water, a handful of pellets, and some hay. I have been consistant with this since I have gotten him, so their were no diet changes as of yet.

Have you checked his bum, is it really dark brown like liquid poo or more like a dark red colour?

One of my girls ate some plaster from the walls and for a few days after she did normal pellets but with liquid poo around them. It was definately from her bum as it got all over her fur there. I just made sure she was eating and drinking normally and my vet checked her over but she wasn't dehydrated. She got better after a couple of days.

If it is dark-red then it is urine and rabbits pee changes colour quite often so I shouldn't worry.
