Just me and baby

Hi my names Zoe .. I live with my parents in the New Forest near Southampton.

I've been Flopsy's (in avatar) permanent foster carer since mid April time of this year. He was scheduled to be spayed last Weds, then we found out that she wasn't a female rabbit after all but a male (deformed testicle)! He's been castrated, vaccinated for myx and the other bunny jabs.

We were hoping to adopt Buck from Bath Cats and Dogs Home, but it would have been unsuitable.
Flopsy is recovering greatly now.

No longer sleeping in newspaper and is back outside in her run. He loves dandilions and is generally a good natured rabbit, but we're desperately looking for female company for him. We did consider adopting a guinea pig but it would be a health problem / issue for both animals.
I work in the Bath area (Newton St Loe) and my boyfriend lives down the road in Bristol.

If anyone could recommend a centre within a 100 mile radius of my home in New Forest I'll try my hardest to get there.

The RSPCA say that rabbits need to be housed in 6ft length cages these days .. has anyone got one? I've hunted high and low for one and found none!! Only 4ft ones or two 4ft ones adjoined.

We've tried:

* ARC Twickenham (car broke down, I have family in Whitton & St Margarets)
* Haskin's Garden Centre (Ferndown, Bournemouth) rabbit was female and at the time we thought Flopsy was too!
* Haskin's Garden Centre (Eastleigh) rabbit had hair loss
* RSPCA (Ashley Heath) no males same reason as Haskins B'mth.
* Bath Cat's and Dog's Home (lovely people) .. had the inspection needed a 6ft cage and not 4ft .. found out Flopsy was male after all and not great for Buck.
* Garson's Gardening Centre (Fareham) not vaccinated etc etc

All these places have been lovely and helpful but there's always something getting in the way preventing me from getting Flopy's gf .. weird things out of my control 9/10 as well.

Hiya,

Lots of members here use a shed instead of a hutch. A 6'x4' shed can work out cheaper than a 6' hutch. Plus then when its raining outside you can sit in the shed to cuddle the rabbits!

If you prefer a hutch try looking for a local carpenter in the small ads or yellow pages.

Good luck find a girl, there is a rescue list here: http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/centres.asp

Is a 6ft hutch really necessary if it's permanently attached to a foxproof run?

I used to make my rabbit hutchesby converting old sideboards. It worked great because you could still use the drawers and just slide them out and tip into the bin to make cleaning easy!

Thank you for your response.
I've tried the URL already, but thank you.
I have a gigantic plastic cage similar to a hamster's but a grander scale, 4" in length and about 2" in height.

I'm pretty new to the bunny world.

I've tried numerous free ad's online and Ebay.

I have just made a request for one of the double hutches on the first link.

Just concerned about leaving rabbits outside as my cousins bunny got mange from a fox. I guess you need to cover the hutch in the winter and during eves?

Thank you for being so kind about my newness to this lovely bunny world.

I think if you have a 2 in 1 hutch come run then you're fine.
She just said they need at least 2 feet of the 6 where they can hide from the outside world .. darkened / enclosed space.

I'm not that great when it comes to DIY, but I give most things a go :D
