View Full Version : My beautiful brave Nougat has gone
At 5.30am Nougat still wasn't eating, but seemed brighter. However, by 8.30, she had deteriorated quite badly and seemed not to be able to use her back legs properly. The brightness was fading from her beautiful eyes, and I knew it was time to let her go.
We went to the vets, who agreed with me (as well as all her other problems, he thinks she had developed peritonitis (sp.) as well. Nougat lay down on the table, she knew it was ok now to admit defeat, and she simply stopped breathing. I'm pleased she died naturally with me there, and she didn't feel any pain.
Nougat, my beautiful girl, mummy loves you so very much. You have been so brave and patient my little one. I'm sorry I let you down so badly my baby. Run free now, in the grass and the fresh air that you love so much.

Oh Helen, I am so so sorry. I was just about to make an unimportant new post and I saw this and it stopped me in my tracks. She is a beautiful beautiful girl and you did NOT let her down, I am certain that you were the most wonderful bunny mummy and looking at that picture of your buns outside, I have to say that the first thing that occurred to me was that looks like "the Bridge on earth"!!! What a magical, idyllic set-up, Nougat must have been a very, very happy bunny indeed and she was very brave.
Binky free in the eternal sunshine little Nougat, nothing can hurt you now. She is free from pain, Helen: I know how hard it is but you have to try to think that she is better off. Big hugs to you.

So very sorry to hear about Nougat, she was so brave, and so were you in caring so much for her. I'm sure that she was a happy bunny whenever she was with you, and you being with her at the end will have made it easier for her. Don't doubt yourself, you gave her all the care she needed, but in the end someone else wanted Nougat to be a Bridge Bunny. She will be missed I know, and thanks for sharing her with us.
take lots of care of yourself

Rest in peace little one and watch over Helen from under your lovely rose bush. xxxx
Bless you Gizmo! I see no reason on earth just because a human is a male that they should not feel sad when they lose someone they love and crying is good for you, it lets out your emotions instead of holding them pent up.

So very sorry to hear about Nougat
I'm totally exhausted now, and don't quite know what to do with myself - no more going out to the garage to care for Nougsy. Again thank you.
I'm going away tomorrow, but i'll be back on tuesday. Then I need to decide what to do about Bobby. I don't feel like a very good bunny mum at the moment (ie to take on another bunny) but it doesn't seem to be fair to Bobby to be on his own.
Well, I need to clear my head before even thinking about it.
Take care all

I've not been on here for a few days, just catching up on everything. I'm so sorry to hear about Nougat; it was all sounding so positive a couple of days ago, I really thought she might just make it. You tried so hard for the little fighter. :( I'm sure you've got some lovely memories of your time together, and you can think of her every time her rosebush flowers.
Hope your break helps you.

I have just returned from a weekend away and sobbed my way through those last three pages.
I can't say anything that hasnt already been said. With every bunny that dies there is always an element of "what if" and "could I have done anything". Take reassurance from the messages on this forum that flystrike happens very quickly and you did everything you could.
My thoughts are with you xx

I've not been on here much for the last couple of weeks so am just catching up. I'm so sorry to hear about Nougat  I had the same thing happen to one of my buns last year, reading the post brings it all back!
Flystrike happens so quickly, please don't blame yourself. I'm sure you are a great bunny mummy and when you feel ready I'm sure Bobby would love a companion
Sending hugs xx

I'm new to the board but followed Nougat's progress after reading about the flystrike episode. I honestly expected her to make a full recovery so was extremely shocked to read that she had passed away. I'm very sorry at your loss.
Rest in peace Nougat x

Oh gosh I said earlier that I didnt know she was ill I knew she had contracted flystrike didn't realise it could kill a bunny! OMG! How worrying poor Nougat
At least she was loved and cherished by her mummy
I'm back from my little rest. Feel much better and much more positive.
Apparently the maggots put toxins into the bunny, which come to the fore after a few days, so although Nougat did really well to start with, her immune system started to break down.

how is bobby doing?
hope he is ok after losing his friend.
sophie
He's always a bit of a moody so and so to be honest! He hates people. He's getting on fine - at least he has the piggies for company, but I think he may need a girlie bun soon. I can't think of any other way to make the bunny run or their routine any better - Bobby's now got rearguard on him, as would any new bunny, so there's no reason for me to think that another bun would be at any more risk of flystrike than any other bun out there.
I'll start tentatively looking around. If anyone knows of a girlie bun who needs a strong, silent type of hubby, let me know.
sophiemarmion
24-08-2005, 03:25 PM
glad to hear that he is doing ok, and he has the piggies for a bit of company!
have you tried rabbit rehome to see if there are any in your area?
sophie
There are a few bunnies in the Nottingham area, none in Lincoln, but I've not been feeling up to it, to be honest. The o/h and I need to have a good chat about this one.
It would be nice to take on a bunny that's been in a rescue a long time.
