  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

mines £22!

If you ring your local vets you can ask them how much a consultation is and how much for a neuter etc. I think mine is about £16 but i cant really remember now.

£12.50 for one bun (£22 if its both) follow up appointments are less.

looking at what other people pay I feel quite lucky, especially as I'm in London.

My specialise vet is at least 3 times that plus theres no discount for taking two! But we only use them when necessary and its worth paying the money for their knowledge and experience.

I'm very lucky in that although I'm in the South East, my local vets is very bunny savvy and also relatively inexpensive. I think last time I went a consultation was about £12, Harry's neuter was about £35 and Daisy's spay was about £50.

We're in Burton-on-Trent, there is only one vet who is prepared to take on surgery for small animals, so he's fairly expensive,
consultation £25 each animal (no discount)
vaccinations £25 each one
castration £45 + check up post op £15

I have a special bank account I put any spare cash I can so in emergency I have it there. I try to pay for rountine things out of my normal monthly income, so that means spreading things out over time, like the vaccinations.

I think you have to be prepared to have an average cost probably about £10 a month. If I dont have any routine things to pay for I put the £25 I would have spent into the account and try to build it up.
I think this is better than having insurance, as you have to pay an excess anyway which can be up to £50.

it depends where you are, and what vet you go to!

so where abouts are you and what vet are you planning on taking your bunnies to. someone on here maybe able to recommend someone to you in your area.
