  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My lionhead has problems with his back teeth and is visiting the vet a second time. The gap between his first treatment was three months ago, and he has to go all the way under. His first treatment cost me £115 and tomorrow it will cost me around £90 as he will not have to be fully sedated. I will always get my rabbit the best and will never not pay, but was wondering if there was any one who specialised in teeth and may be cheaper.
I have changed my rabbits food and he has food designed to keep teeth down. He has all the other essentials. If any one has any advise or information it would be most appreciated.

His problem is his back teeth. I heard after having him that lion heads are prone to teeth problems. He has hay, grass, veg all the time and even has food that helps the teeth stay down. Others I have spoke to say there rabbit go's 6 to 8 months before there teeth need doing again.

It varies depending on how bad the teeth are it can be anything between 6 weeks (occationally less!) to 6 months if you're lucky.

That does sound quite expensive though - it usually cost me around £40 for a teeth job.

A lady who works in our local pet shop said it only cost her around £40, but that vet is a small vets and is in Loughborough. That is a bit of a treck and don't want to cause my rabbit any more stress than necessary. There are only two vets that are really local one I use and the other I have heard some bad things about.
But I will have to pay it as he needs them doing and I will never cause him any upset.
Thanks for that tho
Claire
