Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clearing out the flies

Well my holiday is definately over!

While I was away I asked my neighbour to look after the buns and shes done a good job bar one thing, Whilst she cleaned their hutches she didnt clear out their run of poop from the grass and Ive come home to a big corner of their run filled with poo and as ud expect millions of flies! Ive checked the buns over and their fine with no signs of flystrike and ive moved them so theyre not around it while i tackle it, what I want to know is whats the best way to get rid of them.

Is it enough to simply clear away the poo? Will the flies go on their own accord or is their a better way, such as boiling water, insect repellent etc or is this too much?

I wouldn't use insect repellant as that might leave something un bunny friendly behind.

If you can clear up the poop without leaving any behind that should be enough. Then leave it a little while too dry out.

If there are still flies you can try more drastic action afterwards.

I think some plants put flies off, someone mentioned some the other day... maybe lavender or lemongrass I think.
Worth a try maybe, they smell good if nothing else!
