Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Questions and answers (Bindi)

JIMGRACIE

Bindi has a new toy. I brought her a hay ball. Its supposed to be a nest thingy for hamster and other small animals but thought i would buy one for her to chuck around. Well anyways, it worked. I stuffed her evening snack of cabbage (tiny amount) into and soon after she had eaten that she was busy throughig the nest ball around. Great buy!!!

I have a question....if i were to get Bindi spayed how could her character change? The reason why i ask is because i was talking to an owner of one of our boarding bunnies and she said she had trouble with her rabbit wrecking everything she was given. ie. newspaper. And with handling her rabbit. Well, i have the same sort of problem, apart from Bindi is fine once you have caught her!!

Once speyed a doe will usually calm down and not get so stressed about territory. It will stop that frantic need to hump that some of them get, and will stop phantom pregnancies that can be extremely draining.

It won't necessarily change destructive behaviour as that is more of a general teenage rabbit thing. Age may stop her wanting to rip up her paper, or perhaps not :?

Some does remain territorial even after speying, but many will stop boxing at hands intruding into their space and be far easier to pick up.

It also stops spraying, which females as well as males do to mark their territory. Not a nice habit

And it makes uterine cancer impossible, which has a fairly high incidence in female rabbits.

It really is a good idea, and I would say an essential for a house rabbit, or if you are going to get her a companion - and she would be far happier if you did.
