Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just back from the vet, she looked at his ears and fur, didnt think his ears were bad, found a flaky bit on his back :? so gave him a treatment of xenex, anyone heard of it?

she said it didnt look too bad and should clear up quick, so fingers crossed, she also had a peek at his boy bits to check he was ( I had already said there was no doubt!) and she couldnt believ her eyes...think the phrase was *THEY ARE HUGE!!!*

on the plus side I got a cuddle and he wasnt to bad, a bit scared but no biting or anything, so proud :D

what a clever and big  boy he is . lol
cheeky was well endowed , he used to sit in them instead of sitting on his bum .lol I didn,t have the heart to get him dressed , there was no need anyway as he lived with the family and toby our dog for company - although he did try and mate with toby once .

lol , it wasn,t at the time. Cheeky would jump up on my bed when i was lying watching telly and he would have a go at my feet , once he realised he was not allowed he would then run up the bed , pretend to be snuggling into me and then he would jump me  . we did discuss getting him dressed last year but with his health problems it was decided that we could live with his... ahem randyness  - just before I lost cheekybun the vet said that cheeky acted like he was on viagra as at his age he should have been giving up trying to mate with me , the dog , the slippers etc etc .... i also remember once when I was in the bathroom washin my face and cheeky came in and clamped himself to my leg - i had a face full of soap at the time . it was funny looking back at it now .

sigh ... i miss my wee man :( but he had a good time here and i don,t just mean trying to bonk anything in sight !!

eek - i forgot to post those books to you today

lol ahh Gina what a wee character he was!!! :D how old do they recon they are when they kind of stop all that then? I dont know what to do with Coby, I am scared at the thought of the op, but then it would mean I could get him a pal....ughh I dunno

dont worry just post the books when you remember :D

the op is pretty straight forward so if he isn,t getting a pal it would still be a good idea to get him done as it will dampen his desires ....rrrrraaaaarrrrrr , i,ve got my john booked in next week

I'm glad to hear that Coby is okay :) Xenex is used to help prevent flystrike and is made from natural ingredients so isn't a bad thing :) Did your vet say why she was treating him with it?

p.s. poor John

no she didnt, she looked at him and said she didnt think it was a very advanced case of mites, he has a flaky patch but she said his skin looked ok, could this be why?

she gave me the paper pack away with me to read and said if I had any probs just to call, the fly strike thing is a bonus, we have had a lot buzzing around this summer, so it eases my mind a bit

so do you think the xenex is good then?

Vets don't always explain what they are doing do they  The Xenex helps to repel insects, including fleas, lice and mites, so that is why she probably treated him with it :D I think its a good thing to use, especially in the warmer months and it does help to give you peace of mind :D

reading the packet it tells me

"xenex ultra spot on"

kills mites fleas ticks and repels flies

kills infestations and continues to kill them for 2 weeks....

sounds good, fingers crossed it works, if not I will just go back,

About 2 years ago, one of the foster homes for ARC lost 6 rabbits to Myxie, because myxie is believed to be spread mainly by mosquito and possibly via fleas our vet suggested that all our rabbits and guineas in foster care were all treated with Xenex to discourage any insects which could be about to additionally help protect them against myxie. At that time I had a large group of piggies brought in who had mites, because they would have needed to have xenex to help protect my buns from myxie we actually treated their mites with this as well (instead of the normal treatment of ivermectin), and it did work on this group.

Last week ARC took in a rabbit and 4 guinea pigs from someone (the lady has about 24 cats living in her home), it turned out that the rabbit had fleas. Although all the rabbits we have are all myxie vaccinated (except the real babies) I used 'xenex' to protect the rest of the animals here from infestation.

well Coby has had no adverse reaction to it, and seems fine so I have my fingers crossed it gets rid of the mites, glad to hear positives about the stuff :D
