  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lost Back Toe Nail. 8O

Poor Riley lost his back toe nail due to being scared when the vet picked him up.    Will it grow back. I've saved the nail. Is there something I can do? It must hurt. :( I feel bad for him. It's just one toe nail.

Don't worry they grow back! Just check it doesn't get infected and that it is growing back normally, occasionally they may grow back crooked and need extra trimming but Zeus has snapped three or four in the time I have had him and they all grew back fine.

If it's not bleeding don't worry. Oli lost one too once, think he tripped over the edge of the carpet and pulled it out because I found this nail then a few days later found where it had come from - his toe! It is growing back now. Just keep an eye on it like Caz says. b-m

Sophie lost one too once... she caught it when she thumped really hard at the neighbours cats   I took her to the vets and they said just keep an eye on it to make sure it grows back normally and that there is not infection  What are they like eh, these buns!
