Tamsin - Breeding Females

Lanny

Warren Scout
Just a bit of a follow on from the other breeding post, Tamsin you mentioned that breeding before neutering doesn't effect males.

Would it effect females? fern has made two nests since we had her and acts really hormonal as well (ie skittish, not tolerating donny at all)

Thanks

Well obviously the female would then get pregnant which has quite a big impact on her body even if it goes well and there is always the risk of complications.

If the female had given birth you'd have to wait until after the babies were rehomed and she had recovered. Having had phantom pregnancies, as far as I know, doesn't effect neutering.

It's quite common for females to build nests and get hormonal and neutering is usually a help for this.

I'm sorry I didn't make my post very clear

I will try again, Fern is already neutered but she had at least one litter (that we know of) but she is now nest building etc.

I just wondered if this was normal or if it should have been stopped? We currently have a bun with PMT

Oh, now I'm with you. I thought it was a bit weird asking about the consequenes of mating - I almost gave you a talk on the birds and the bees ;)

How long ago was she done? It can take 6 weeks or so for the hormones to settle down. I've heard of males building nests on occations so some buns are just funny like that  I'm not sure whether there is any relation to nest building after neutering to a previous litters.

Most buns stop after neutering so it's not normal but it's not totally abnormal either.

I almost gave you a talk on the birds and the bees Wink

We have had her for about 6 weeks and she was definately done a couple of weeks before that! She is a very odd bun  Some days she will lay down for hours and let you stroke her (god help us if we stop) and other days she runs away and hides.

Oh well it must be one of those character traits that make us love our buns all the more!

Thanks for you help though!
