  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi all,

Ia m new to this site and i was just wondering if any of you experienced bunny people would be able to help me out!

I am thinking of getting my female rabbit spayed but i was just wondering have you had any bad experiences and how risky is the operation.

The other thing is, what are your views on house rabbits??? :D

i have an house bun and an out side bun 2 soon i love having midnight in doors hes always there for me and never chews eney thing althow hes not litter trained i dont mined cleaning up the mess as for spaying peach is getting spayed on tuesday so this is my first experiaance of this but as long as you vet is a rabbit vet then all should be ok.

I've had two spayed in the past, and they've been fine. Just needed to rest a couple of days afterwards.
Housebunnies? Squidgy's a house bun and is very happy (he's a bit of a wimp, doesn't like it outside  ). He's a netherland dwarf. I also had a minilop successfully as house rabbit.
However, my big boy, Bobby, was tried inside, but he hated it. He definitely prefers to be outside. His friend, Nougat, has always been outside as we got her to be a companion for him.
I think it depends on the bunny.

I have just had my does spayed and they both did great. AS long as you find a vet that knows their stuff a spay would be a good idea.

As far as house bunnies go, I think they are great. My three are all house buns. If you want your bunny to have free range of the house then you need to train her and bunny proof the house/room. Just make sure she is litter trained before you let her free. I would reccomend setting up a base station. Keep water, her food/hay, and a litterbox in the base so she always eats in the same spot.

Oops this appears to be a duplicate post (see other topic by same name).

Wonder if Tamsin can merge them?
