Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Clipping claws

Hi all,

How do you clip your rabbit's claws? My Miffy has rather long claws, plus she's not fond of being touched (she has minimal strokes/fusses, and has never been picked up by us as she hates it), so how on earth would I go about doing it?!

Many thanks for your advice!

You can buy rabbit nail clippers at your local petstore to get the job done, but if you dont think you can handle her yourself, you can take her to the vet to have them done for not that much money.

If you think you want to try yourself, I would suggest having someone else hold her for you, while you can clip her nails. I would only do a little bit at a time, and do it frequently so she can get used to the routine and you dont hurt her. If you are having trouble holding her down you can put a pillow over her head or give her some of her favorite treats to relax her so it is not stressful for you or her :D

Would Miffy tolerate being wrapped up in a towel whilst someone clipped her nails? Another option is have her standing on something flat and by picking up one paw at a time and cut it whilst the ther paws are on the flat, again this is easier with two people. If Miffy is very nervous you may need to do one paw a day or even one nail at a time. An easier option is to put her run out for a few days on concrete and let her wear her nails down by herself.

hi

When I had to force-feed Pepsi last week I didn't know how to do it as he wasn't easy to handle at all - The vet advised me to kneel on the floor, throw a towel over him and drag him all wrapped in a bundle, up to between my legs, where he couldn't kick out, back away or escape...I noticed that when I held his front half of his body up, wrapped like a suasage roll, his front paws were held quite firmly too - I think it would be a good way to cut claws on your own, but don't expect the bunny to speak to you afterwards! Best have a slice of carrot handy for a reward when you're done - and of course you don't need to do them all - just do one nail at a session, then it's less stressful :)

As for the back feet, well I think I'd have to get a vet to do them :?

Thanks guys! I think I'll get the vet to do them, I don't want to stress the poor girl out too much! I'll let you know how she gets on.
