  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Runny eyes!

Lanny

Warren Scout
Fern has had a runny eye for a couple of weeks, we took her to the vet about 10days ago and she gave us some drops for her.

We have given her a course of these drops and it isn't any better, the vet didn't think it was teeth related and we have changed the litter

Any ideas?

Was it Tiacil drops? Did you try Fucithalmic - it is more like a gel and sometimes eye infections respond to it better than Tiacil (work against different bacteria)?

Has the vet considered flushing her tear ducts to remove a possible blockage?

Is the hay you buy particularily dusty this time? Is she in a draft?

Did the vet check her front teeth for scoring just incase it is a tooth root infection?

There are some ideas to get you started ;)

Thank you!
The drops we were given were Fucithamic ones, we changed the hay cos the compacted one we used to but was particularly dusty, we now get it straight from a farm and it isn't dusty (well for hay!!)

There aren't any drafts ( we were told to check that last time) As I am sure anyone who has seen this on a rabbit knows, it looks like she is crying and no one wants to see their pet cry!

We have an excellent rabbit vet (Oxfordshire if anyone is interested) I am sure she will know what to - we will just have the joy of trying to get her to stay still long enough so we can clean it!!!

Thumper used to have runny eyes, and we tryed everything to get it cleared up and then i moved out and it cleared up, think he must of been allergic to ma mammys cats
