Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald patch on Tyson's ear

Tyson was recently on his holidays while we were away on ours and when we got the bunnies home again we noticed that he had a scab in the middle of his ear and a bald patch. I have been bathing it with salt water and the scab is gone now, but he still has a bald patch with no sign of hair growing. His ear looks OK, no redness now, just no hair.

I think probably Tia or Toby who he lives with must have bitten his ear, but I am not sure how long it will take for the hair to return. Does it sound like anything that I should be concerned about do you think?

Hi Bunnygran!

I wouldn't be worried about the bald patch! Velevt has a couple on her ears where she got bitten by Spot about 6 months ago and they are still there.

Thanks a lot Phill. I just wasn't sure whether it was something to be concerned about. When I look more closely (with my glasses on), there is a dark mark which I think could be a bruise.

As long as it is nothing to worry about. Thanks again.
