Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fluffy is changing colour

My lionhead is changing colour, he used to be light brown with a white belly but over the past two days he has developed what I suppose you could call a saddle back and shoulders which are far darker brown, is it possible he is moulting in the heat and this is new fur underneath?

He is 7 months old, seems happy enough, Ive never had a bun change like this before, any ideas?

Sounds like it. Bunnies can moult in very weird patterns. You might find the colour moves in a wave down his body.

my mums bunny has done that when she was small she was chocolate coloured all over with red eyes, really gorgeous but over the last couple of months has gone lighter brown and patchy if you know what i mean!

It maywell be moult, but sometimes rabbits that are outside a lot will change colour due to the sun, a black rabbit will turn brown if out in the sun a lot. val

hi i have to lionhead sisters and when i got them there fur on there backs was different colours it's hard to explain as there both brown but 1 looked smooth and the other rough but then they both molted and now they look both the same rough looking

Hi! My lionheadX looks like that when he's moulting, he is just now. He looks like he has a dark grey splodge or saddle on his back, the rest of him is light grey and white. The fur around the main dark area is also a bit lighter and very loose.

It happened last time he had a big moult, he got back to normal after a few weeks. He does look quite odd, he looks exactly how you describe (only grey instead of brown!)

In the lovebird world, if there is a feather color change, it means the bird is lacking mineral, or not enough of it.

Apparently, based on the above posts, it seems lack of mineral is not the cause of fur color changes.

But it's strange.
