  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello,

After you posted on another dicussion about wood shavings, i thought i would let you know, what might help you in the confussion of wood shavings.

The link below states why wood shavings of cedar wood, and pine wood may be bad, for small animals.

http:/exoticpets.about.com/cs/guineapigs/a/woodshavings.htm

On the other hand, i have known people to use pine and cedar products for years, and they have never had any problems with their small animals. The following site will say all to be said.

http:/www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/1155/Pine.html

Its a matter of what you want to believe, and what you think is best for your animals.

My manager orders huge compacted bags of Aspen. But does tend to use wood shavings when the Aspen hasn't arrived.

how can you tell what the shaving are made of? for example the bags you normally get at pet shops with the green writing on, they dont say what the are made of

can't answer that one, sorry!! You could ask the pet shop owners. I bet half the pet shops in the UK don't know either. I suppose they could ask the suppliers!!
