Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi there everyone,
I was woundering if any one can help. i have never had baby rabbits before and my doe has had a suprise litter and im a bit unsure on the following 2 things.
1st of all - where my doe Jemima has built her nest with the babies in - what will happen when it needs cleaning out. Do i just leave the nest and clean round them for the moment or what. dont want to do anything to hurt them are make her ignore them. :?
2nd of all - how old are they before their eyes open.
Sorry for the long post but im just unsure and want to get things right. Thanks in advance for your help. :bunny:

hi there leave the nest and clean around it until they are three weeks this is when they will start to emerge from the nest! infact you shoulld really not touch the nest or babies at this point and if you do (obviously you need to know they are all alive) rub your hands on the mother and her droppings to remove your sent from your hands.

the kits open there eyes around the tenth day!

thanx for that. i got told off a pet shop to wear rubber gloves when i check the babies to make sure they are all alive. Upto now have not touched any just opened the door and looked. was a bit scared incase i disturbed them.

Here are a couple of old topics that may help.

I believe that you do need to remove any dead babies if the mum hasn't as otherwise they can chill the live ones. Rexy Bexy says as long as the mother is used to you and not nervous then your scent on the babies won't put her off but it is probably best to rub in a bit of bedding first. I would have thought the smell of latex gloves would be more off putting if she had never smelt it before.
