  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mite Spray for house/carpet - any suggestions?

Charlie's dandruff ended up being mites - its so hard to tell with him, mostly its just his dry skin but this time he's definitely got mites (cheytiella). I've been away for a few days, got back to a balding flakey bun! He's happy enough he just looks scruffy. Anyhow, took him to the vets as soon as I could and he's started his course of injections so all will be fine. Hopefully there are no underlying problems as his teeth are fine, he's eating, pooing, running around etc.

Anyhow, I need to do the lounge just to be on the safe side, I normally use Crusade to spray their cage and the carpet but I can't get hold of any - tried 3 pets shops and 3 vets, can get it ordered for next week but ideally I want to do it over the weekend. There were others in the pet shop but none of them said safe for bunnies - any suggestions?

I also now await the rash that I always get when he's got mites!

Hi,

The only stuff I've used I got from my vets. It was in a large can about 12 ins high with blue writing and it cost a fortune 16.oo pounds. The can was white if this helps.

I would try sone more vets if I was you.

Good luck

I use to have this problem and it drove me nuts so I forked out for wooden floors
