  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

claws!!!!!

Yep, you can cut her nails, you should use a special nail clipper for rabbits which you can get from pet shops. You have to watch out for the quick, the blood supply to the nail, and cut below it .......... in light coloured nails it's easy to see as a pink line going down the first part of the nail but it's more difficult in buns with dark nails.

If you are in any doubt you should ask your vet (or maybe a nurse clinic will show you for free) because if you cut the quick they will bleed a lot and be in a lot of pain.

hi there as conny said the darker nails are harder to do because of the quick, a good idea is get someone to help you and they can hold a torch under the nail where you can see the quick better, but if you are unsure and trip to the vets would be a good idea, also you can arm yourself with a produce bought from pet shops called quick blood stopper its a powder so if you do cut the quick it will stop the bleeding but not ease the pain so be careful.

also it is best to cut a little bit of the nail often than leave long periods inbetween where you have to cut more off!

I use clippers with a guard on them so I cant cut too much off! I find nail trimming quite scarey, too worried about hurting the buns!!!
