  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can anyone help my poorly bun?!

My bunny Moo is a rescue bunny about 2/3 years old. Recently he has started holding up his right paw and is obviously in pain. We took him to the vets yesterday for an x-ray. However, this showed up no problems only a v healthy skeleton and spine. All the vets are at a loss, they have no idea what it could be apart from bad blood circulation not reaching the end of his toes. He has a scab on the other front paw too so they are worried that eventually he may loose the ends of his paws?! I have never heard of this and am hoping someone out there may have some more info?
Thanks!

I can't help I am afraid but I just wanted to wish you all the best.

How long has he been doing this, are there any other symptoms?

aaawww so sorry to hear about Moos difficulties, I have not heard about this condition before so can just make some very basic suggestions.

I think it is good advice to ask to be referred to a rabbit Specialist as they may be able to help Moo further than a general Vet :)
Your vet should have a list of Specialists to hand :) The vet may give something to help the pain, and also perhaps open the arteries to improve circulation? I dont know what specific drugs are available.
In the meantime, what about just gently massaging the Limbs twice daily to stimulate circulation? You can also get heat pads to warm up in the microwave :)
We have had accupuncture used on rabbits with problems before, so this is another avenue to explore, and perhaps some Animal Healing?
There is a massage technique called T Touch which is very good.

Let is know how Moo does, thinking of you
best wishes
Adele
PS Welcome to the Forum :)

If it is narrowed blood vessels, they may benefit from a heat pad which may dilate the blood vessels and ease the pain if it is caused by that.

Thanks for replying!!

I think I will try and find someone else in the area - good suggestion! The vets are going to try and speak to some specialists but I dont think they will be able to come up with much.
The healing sounds like a good idea too, is there any good web sites on this type of thing?

Moo has been doing this for about 3 months now and we have tried everything and he is on meticam (?) drops for artheritic dogs?!! and also on anitbiotics for the scab on his foot, i also have him on calcium vitamins but now dont know what to do as it no longer sounds like the problem is with his bones.
Think I will start ringing around all the local rabbity type people to see if they can help!
:)

Update!

Moo still not wanting to walk on his poorly feet, I am going to try and see a small animal specialist and he is having his very own healer come to see him at the house next week, I think my boyfriend thinks I have lost the plot!!!!!
Anyone else tried healing at all - does it actually do anything?

:) :bunny:
