Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Brush or comb?

I was just wondering as our bunnies are all madly molting at the moment what is the best brush or comb you have to aid our bunny friends?

We have a so called rabbit brush, looks a bit like a baby hair brush but the bristles are bit stiffer and it doesnt seem to be much good.

When we walk in the shed its looks like a fur snow storm

I have a brush collection built up over the years of pet ownership and I find the best one for when they are moulting is a cat moulting comb which has alternate long and short teeth. The only other brush that seems to get anything off of them is a mini slicker brush. I will have a search and see if I can find piccies.

I bought a bag of multi brushes and combs from Jollies for about £15, it contained about 10 different ones. If I had bought each one individually if would of cost me about £4 a brush.

I find those rubber glove groomer things are rather good for taking off dead hair. I also use a brush, comb and mini slicker.

:)

Tree, I saw those bags of brushes in Jollyes and, I agree, they looked superb value for money - but as I already had most types at home is wasn't worth me buying one.

I use a cat flea comb. Brushes are no good, especially the ones with really soft bristles. If its really lose just stroking/plucking with your fingers can work well.

I use a variety depending on the bun! the best ones for me are a metal comb with wider teeth on one side and thinner ones on the other! and one of those rubber glove thingy's!
