Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Jaro - gradually swelling abdomen - or just getting fatter ?

Jaro has EC and is unable to pee by himself - we have to manually express him twice a day.

There is more on his condition in this post > http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3630&highlight=jaro+ec

He is on Parafend for the EC (Fenbendazole)

He seems to be gradually gaining weight / a swollen abdomen - and has been over the last 3 weeks or so.

he is also not pooing quite as much as he used to (although he is still regular, so it doesn't seem to be due to a blockage).

We are pretty sure this is neither bloat or GS (we have tried Infacol + Liquid Parafin) - and he does not seem to be in any discomfort from it.

Just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions, or if it could be simply weight gain - he is not as active as he was, although he still has a healthy appetite.

We've tried cutting back on his food a bit, and he now eats predominantly hay / timothy hay, with a small supplement of fresh carrot / coriander / supa-excel.

When we express him, I can feel the poos in his guts, and his stomach always seems to feel full and 'tight'.

I know we need to take him to the vets, I'm just trying to arm ourselves with some information first.

thanks

yep - you're probably right - we're just worried about him being put under for the x-ray.

He was last checked by the vet 2 weeks ago - he had a good feel (we were worried we weren't expressing enough pee out of him, and that that was what was building up).

he wasn't overly concerned, in fact he thought Jaro looked very bright - he has certainly still got a very good appetite and drinks a fair bit.

we're actually wondering whether it is physcological - he doesn't go to his litter tray to pee any more, so maybe he is simply not pooing as much either.

thanks

Martin

hi

Maybe he will just need a gut motility drug once a fortnight or something, now he's all out of sinc with his health in other ways - hopefully it's that simple.
