  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Sneezing & Wheezing

I took in a Velvet Rex a week ago and he keeps sneezing and wheezing, I have give him some baytril but it doesn't seem to be shifting it. Does anyone think it could be pastuerella, I am going to my vets this afternoon and will mention it. The person I took it in from said he had always been like that and his vets told him it was nothing to worry about.

it does sound like pastuella symproms, maybe Gina could gove you a little bit of advice as I think Cheeky has it.

Sooty has this and has finished a course of antibios. He is really perky again but sneezes like mad. I'm going to the vet today at 5. We can compare notes! Good luck

Back from vet. Says Sootys chest sounds clear but still sneezing loads so another week of antibios I'm afraid.

had a chat with my vet and she says to keep him on the baytril tiill next week, ( she says it sounds like pasturella), and then we will try penicillin, he is absolutely fine in himself, eating and drinking normal and also very lively.
I am so good in taking everybodies demics in. I am sure people think oh my bun is going to start costing us money we will give it to kay. I fall for it everytime (but wouldn't be without any of them).
