Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pets at home.......again....

Young Bun
I was in my local pets at home yesterday getting hay for my babies....and i had to have a look at the rabbits they got...

And i nearly died when i over heard the shop worker telling a customer, that she can breed her rabbits from 12weeks........surely this is wrong?

The customer had lost her rabbit to a cat, and was trying to breed a pure white one before the kids found out....

I hope they never bought any of the gorgous rabbits that were in there

I was desperate to correct her, but to be honest was only 95% sure i was right....

Any advice?

hi

Well I'm sure going to a rescue and finding a white bunny would have been quicker than this dimwit buying and breeding a whole family of rabbits - presumably her children must only check up on their bunnies once every 4 months then (or is my maths wrong?)

Pets at Home should set an example by NOT selling animals at all - I'm sure they make enough money from hutches/feed/litter/etc etc etc...If people want to get an animal they should be forced to go to either a rescue or a licensed breeder - but now I'm entering the realms of fantasy

Whether a rabbit CAN breed at 12 weeks is irrelevant - it's too young and still growing and developing itself - if all that energy is diverted to raising a litter how will thrive itself?? I believe humans can get pregnant from the age of about 12yrs, but it's not recommended!

Oh no, it really makes you wonder 'who are these people'? 'Dimwit' it about right Elve - I would perhaps use something a little stronger but not on here! But anyway, regardless of the reason for breeding  PAH should not be encouraing anyone to breed their rabbits when there are so many unwanted bunnies in the rescues. IMO they certainly should not be allowed to sell rabbits when this is the advice they are giving! b-m
