  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A few questions.....

I have a few questions from someone that doesn't have the internet I would love you to help.

What do you do when they have a cold?
What do you syringe feed them if they need it?
What can you use for pain relief?
What are rabbits most prone to?

Thank you, I would really appreciate some answers.

Rabbits dont get 'colds' like we do.
You can syringe fluids/liquid feed into them if they are really poorly and not eating/drinking otherwise you dont need to. The feed is called Critical care of ...something.. recovery i think.
Pain relief from vets is called Metacam. i have heard of people giving aspirin to rabbits too but i dont know what dose so best to ask vet for rabbit stuff.
Rabbits are very prone to stomach upsets due to new foods, eating things they shouldnt, or a bug. They are also prone to bloat and stomach blockages causing a build up of air and stops food passing through their intestines... this can be fatal if not treated quickly.

As said rabbits don't get colds. Any cold like symptoms need to be seen by the vet as they can be quite serious in bunnies.

If they stop eating then yes you can syringe feed them but again if they are at the stage they need to see a vet asap. You need to be very careful doing this that they don't choke or inhale the food.

Rabbits can have painrelief, the most common one perscibed by the vet is metacam or sometimes an injection is given.

Rabbits can get a wide variety of health problems, many of which can be a result of improper general care. Its very important you do alot of research on diet and housing as well as learning about medical problems.
