  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just back from the vets

Yesterday we noticed that Ron had a sore paw (it looked like a boil just where his claw joins with his paw)

As he was still eating and running around ok, and most certainly binkying around the garden we thought to take him to the vets today rather than the emergency vet.

The poor little man has got a skin infection on 1 or 2 of his pads. Awww bless.

So yesterday we decided to ease the discomfort and changed from their normal straw bhedding to vetbed. The vet was very please we done that and he is now on a baytril 0.5ml once a day and a cream that we have to rub in twice a day.

If not cleared in a week (we are back at the vets saturday for their myxi jabs) then the vets will think of something else.

Our vets are brilliant with small animals and they write a small column in our local newspaper eveyr week. This week it was about 2 rabbits that managed to escape from a fox with quite serious injuries and one rabbit lost her tail. Luckly they are both fit and well again.
