Rabbit Condo

Hi,

After much though and research I have taken the plunge and adopted two rabbits from my local rescue centre.

One of them is waiting to be spayed and then they need to complete a bonding programme so they won't be moving in for about a month yet. In the mean time I am busy bunny proofing the place and considering housing options.

I live in a flat and don't have a garden but the team at the rescue centre have assured me that the rabbits will do fine as house bunnys. Although I hope that eventually they will be free roaming most of the time I understand that they still require either a cage or hutch and have been looking at the options. I'm not keen on the old wooden hutches but was impressed by the two story Rabbit condo made by Leith Petwerks http://www.leithpetwerks.com .

I am particuarly keen on having a double tier cage as i have limited floor space but want to provide the best home i can for the rabbits. Unforuntely postal costs mean that importing this product is not a viable option for me so i have been trying to find something similar in the UK.

To date i have been unable to find anything that comes close and I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks a lot

yep will be houndign you in a months time for your pictures. congrats on you new bunnies, what are they like?

my bunny is in my flat with me, and I keep him in a puppy pen while I am not in as I wouldn't trust him to not chew etc and my boyfriend would go bezerk if her chewed the settee! it isn't a huge puppy pen as like you I do not have the floor space. He loves his home so good luck in finding a housing solution for your buns

Hello! I too have been researching indoor housing for when we move house (mine are free range at the moment - we are in a small flat/no garden). These large dog crates are quite good for indoor use (you would need at least size L for 2 bunnies, maybe bigger - if you want to keep them together):

http://www.prizepets.co.uk/~sa_webapp/run.asp?page=73

Also have a look on Hop & Hutch as they have a good selection of double/triple tier hutches - although I have to say most of the hutches available in the UK seem to be for outdoor use:

Also try here (they have indoor hutches but they are not interlinked with ramps - also outdoor double/triple hutches):

I am thinking of getting two large indoor single hutches from here when we move and stacking them on top of each other - the bottom one will be for my existing bunnies (but the door will be permanently open!) and the top one for a new pair (who will also have free run time every day around the house/garden).

Can I just say though, we never had a hutch/cage for our existing bunnies, and while Sylvia (always being a house rabbit) is totally fine with this setup, I think that Oli would have benefited from having his own 'pad' because he is rather nervous and doesn't much like humans

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply, and yes i promise i will post some pics in the near future :)

I still haven't found anything that comes close to the rabbit abode but I did quite like the dog cage option. Maybe i could get two of the medium ones and stack them on top of each other, although they wouldn't be inter connected.

Do you think that they would prefer to have one cage each or are they generally happy to share?

I have been reading as much as i can find but haven't come across anything that really discusses this.

Once again thanks for your help.

Hi, once they are bonded, I should think they would prefer to share one big cage (once bonded they should not be separated again). Mine are never out of each other's site and spend most their time grooming and snuggling up with each other. b-m

I have a dog cage now, but used to use these:

You can arrange the panels to the space you have, I believe some diy minded people have made these into two level indoor housing for their buns.

Here's what mine looked like:

Thanks

Hi Beck,

Thanks for taking the time to write and for posting the picture. It's helpful to see other peoples set up's. I'm kinda disappointed at the limited range of indoor cages for sale in the UK. The only nice ones i have come across so far are in the US. Seems that there is a market out there for anyone with engineering skills.

Thanks again guy's. Please keep the pics / posts coming.

Damo.
