  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bunny's not well!!

Skye

Young Bun
Well my baby Skye stop eating last tuesday, i took her to the vet on Thurdsay and she said he liver was enlarged and hard, she gave her antibiotics and a steriod injection, and I was given food to syringe feed her. Well she still hasn't started eating so I took her back to vet on Monday and she has been booked in to get a xray and ultrasound of her liver! Vet said it could be a number of things, from infection to cyists!! I'm really really worried about her! Sorry to go on but I'm soooo worried!

Thanks for all the good wishes!! I've just dropped Skye of at the vets so I'll let you all know how she gets on!

well just had the vet on the phone, turns out Skye has a massive furball in her tummy!! I'm so relieved it's nothing else. Thanks for all your good wishes. Skye has to be kept on the recovery food just now and have some injections to break the furball down!

Poor wee thing, hope she gets better soon.

Has anyone tried Nutri-Nibbles hairball treats? They're pineapple flavour and they smell delicious.

We use fresh pineapple and/or fresh pineapple juice to help break down haiballs.
We also give it when the buns are molting or heavily shedding to help prevent the hair balls from forming.
Do Nutri-Nibbles actually have pineapple in them or just the flavor?
I'm in the USA...I wonder if they make them or a similar product here.

:~) Jim

Didn't know you can give them pineapple juice.

The Nutri-Nibbles are only pineapple flavoured with papaya inside. It's the bran and fibre in them that's supposed to help prevent hair balls. I only got them today but Joey seems to like them.

Pineapple and papaya both contain the same enzyme that should help to break down hairballs!

It's got to be fresh pineapple, though. No canned  .

Was going to mention the papaya, but Caz beat me to it. Good form, Caz :thumb: !!

We use canned pumpkin to add fiber to their systems. Not fresh.. ..Canned only. It has something to do with the processing of the canned pumpkin that makes it work.
