Household Cleaners

Alice

Warren Scout
As splats is now in the house at the moment running around and leaving dropping trails I have had to mop the kitchen/utility room each day.

I have been using a weak solution of dettol multisurface cleaner (nice apple smelling one) but I am not sure how bunny safe this is.

I always make sure the area has dried before I usher him back in, but can anyone confirm if there are any household cleaners that are definately safe to use.

I use dettol disinfectant to clean by bunnies out, diluted in hot water, and this has never done any harm, would presume this is fine to use on a floor too. :D

:thumb: Perfect Louise, bless you for that link, I have been looking for safe household cleaners amongst other things.
That is a great Company, thank you for telling us about them  :D

I've seen the Astonish Range in shops like Homebargains.

I'm sure if you email them they will give you a list of shops that stock there products.

I use vinegar, and don't disinfect at all, just wipe things down with white vinegar. It cleans urine from hard surfaces quite well. Is It really essential to have a disenfectant? If the bunnies aren't sick, why does it mattter?

Just wondering...

This has been copied from another forum but I thought it might help a little

I've just picked up this information from a US-based forum, Basically someone in the USA was using a product called Swiffer Wetjet and suddenly, their dog died from liver failure - shortly followed by their cats. The product states that it may be harmful to animals and children!

I don't know if this exact product is available in the UK (I know the Swiffer brand is), but as it is made by Proctor & Gamble (the animal testers) be very aware that they own a huge number of brands including Flash. Irrespective of the exact cause of the problem, I think it pays to exercise extreme caution in using chemical-based cleaners on surfaces where animals have ANY contact.

Finally, just to complete the picture about P&G, a couple of years ago, when they launched 'Fabreeze', their were incidents of pets dying after coming into contact with items sprayed with this product

I use Bio-D for washing up liquid. They also do a laundry range as well.

These are not tested on animals and they are environmentally friendly.

I don’t use laundry powder or liquid. I use a wash ball with magnets in it that is just as good if not better then laundry powder.

You can read more about it here:

Does that ball make your clothes smell nice?

I've always used vinegar around the places my bunnies were ........ Lauren, don't worry you have been disinfecting your cages by using vinegar (o/h is a research chemist!!! - but I'll spare you the details I have to go through when I ask anything remotely relating to chemistry!!! ) ............I'd still rinse well after using it though.

I avoid using sprays in general though ......as much for my own lungs as for the pets'!!!
