  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Oh dear  I took Michael to the vets last week for a general check over and to discuss getting him erm .... .......
So there we were with the vet when she tells me that Michael is in fact a Michael'a'. I was so embrassed. I've always gone with what the person who gave me Michael said and because he is not the friendliest bun I've never had a 'look'. Should I have known this? I do feel bad that I didn't. Michaela doesn't like a girl. I have seen a handsome little male friend now though, once she has been in for her op :D I just had to confess this terrible error I have made

He, err she might become a little more friendly after the op. Girls can be abit territorial. Its a pretty common mistake, unless your very experienced it can be hard to tell. I wouldn't feel confident sexing baby rabbits.

Tam

So there you have it - you shouldn't feel bad if even our resident guru Tam is not confident sexing baby buns. At least his name change was an easy one to make - my friend had a female bun called Brian for exactly the same reason. We thought about Briony or other alterations but none worked so she was always Brian. The way they found out Brian was a she was when they put "him" with Hercules and the inevitable happened with the resulting offspring. So, don't feel bad.
