Same here...although when I was on other things it was as fast as usual..like you I thought it was my computer....I was able to go and do other things in between each "click"...so frustrating when I want to catch up on so much I have missed over the past week!!!

Will this site just keep growing and growing or will it get to a stage where you will have to delete some old pasts to free up space?

Tamsin
09-01-2005, 10:08 PM
I'm not sure, at the moment the database is about 33MB. I think we brought about 100MB altogether, more space isn't too expensive though.

If we end going for years then eventually I might need to delete some, I'd probably go for things like the general chat rather than the care posts so the posts that might be useful for reference stay. I'd have old backups though for emergencies.

Bit better again now - anyone notice a pattern?? Maybe the hosting company is hosting a high working hours usage website as it seems to speed up in the evenings a bit.

The host is in america, 5 hrs ahead of us, so its 3 in the afternoon there :?

I'll get back to them.

Tamsin
11-01-2005, 09:34 PM
If you notice it go slow can you record the time here. The host is going to keep an eye but it might help if we can work out the times if its not random. As Caz says it could be something thats just happening one time of day.

Mine's slowed down....... if I try to post something it takes ages and when I'm finished reading a post, it takes ages to get back to the index. Anyone else finding this just now? :?

Any time I tried this morning between 8 and 10, I got the dreaded error message. So I've defragged my PC and at the mo its OK (now 1325). There's me thinking I'd done something right for once but perhaps its just a co-incidence.

I am finding it a bit slow at the moment, but then it is almost like it has a burst of energy for about 5 minutes or so, then a couple of minutes on go slow mode

I think I might look at a different host when our 6 months are up. Forums use alot of bandwidth so we went with a cheap one I hadn't used before rather than the one I use for RR but there might be some others worth looking into now we know exactly how busy.

Have pm'd you re: http://www.nethosted.co.uk/multiple_domain_hosting.html

My bro says the plus plan is probably the minimum you would need as the forum will need a lot of bandwidth but it should be quicker anyway as his new servers are based in the UK. They use the same forum software apparently so it should be easy to move with little or no loss of service.

Anyway I will stop plugging his company now - promise ;) !

Bertie

It's all been very sporadic. Some threads will load really quickly, but when I click on a different thread it has to umm and ahh for a bit. Doesn't seem to be related to thread length or there being lots of piccies either. Mostly it seems random. It's not been as bad today as it has been though.

Tamsin
21-01-2005, 09:32 PM
The host just email to say they think they have finally tracked down the problem and the speed issue should be sorted. Soooo, let me know if there are any further problems.

Is it me? The site seems to be going awfully slow - it's 18.55.
I tried on John's laptop and it's the same :? Mind you, it is the same broadband connection so it could be that :?
Anyone else finding it slow :?:

I ended up knitting a sock and I couldn't knit beforhand

It's the knitting doing it. I'm knitting a jumper. It must be a property of the wool that it slows our internet connections down. I have socks waiting to be knitted, I dread to think how slow the forum will get then. Maybe we should start a knitting circle. We could knit ear warmers for rescue bunnies.
