Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I want to recommend a vet for the West Midlands area

SOAD

Wise Old Thumper
I use one in Wolverhampton called Cavan, they also have three other practices, I believe one in Birmingham. They have always been brilliant with any of my pets and when Beatrix was spayed she was hoping around as normal the next day (this was also after complications).

The reason I want to recommend them is because not only are they a good rabbit vets with friendly staff, they are also incredibly cheap.

Spayed Cost £35.00
Male neutering £25.00
Myx Jab £8.00
VHD Jab £8.00

Hope this helps someone :bunny:

hi thank you for that, it hard to find a good vets that is good and knows there rabbit stuff, i went to a vets called walpole and bingham and r really good with rabbits but very expencive
but my local vets is called rosewood and that is quite good too but the one u say is really good in the way of prices, ill tell my mom this one. Just looked in the yellow pages and is it in willenhall
becky

Remember although prices stay the same it is often the individual vet that makes a practice - mine has two (used to have three) rabbit knowledgable vets but it is possible a sister practice may not have any!

Hiya,

I am not sure if there is one in Willenhall, the one I use is Wolverhampton the telephone number is 01902 784555, I am just down the road from Willenhall so it shouldn't be to far to travel.

Gosh that is very cheap!!can't believe the difference in price depending on where you live.

They aren't all that cheap in Wolves the vets closer to my home charges £70 for neutering, some times it's worth ringing around your local vets to find if you can get a better deal.

Hi Caz,

I was chatting about this to my aunt and she was saying they are not good with cats, but the practice in B-ham is, so if you take your cat to them in the morning and they can't help they take it to the other practice to be dealt with and bring it back to the original vets for you. I imagine they do the same with the rabbits, swap them around the practices so they can be dealt with properly. I believe they do have a very low fatality rate as far as operations under anaesthetic are concerned too.

That's a pretty good idea - they do all the leg work for you! My old vets were part of a big chain but they never had a system in place like that!

I found my current vets when my then local vets (who as it turned out knew nothing about rabbits) gave up trying to diagnose what my first rabbit Fudge had and looked up the local specialist in this big vet directory. After that I have taken all my rabbits to the specialists even though they are further away they have better emergency procedures in place for out of hours calls etc.

Cavan, have 3 practices, 1 in birmingham, 1 in Wolverhampton and 1 in willenhall, I use the willenhall one, when taking your rabbits to be vaccinated, be sure they have enough vaccine in stock, i booked in 8 and when i got there they only had 5 doses so had to take some back the following week.

how uch do they charge for conseltaions(sp) just evey time i go in a vets they always give the rabbit a conseltation b4 anything. Once i only ordered something and told me i had to bring a rabbit in to be cheaked

they don't charge anything for a consultation, I've gone in before thinking there was something wrong with Bea, when there wasn't and they didn't charge me anything.

Oh and teeth trimming is £4 a time

That's really cheap. I take it that's for the incisors. Also if you do need to get this done to the buns, it's best that you get a vet who uses a dremmel type burr to trim them rather than clip them, clipping them can split the teeth and cause abcesses.

I think I am going to start a note book for excellent information like this :) I would never have known that about clipping :(

It sounds like a really good vets Tree :D still a fair way away from me though :(

I didn't know the difference either, If I having the new bun she has teeth problems, so I need to know all this.

If they were a nation wide vets it would be good, it may also drive some other vets to put their prices down.

It would be worth writing a RU book on bunny care using the useful posts by the members. I used to post on the Mumsnet forum and they did this - they published at least two books Mums on Babies and Mums on Pregnancy.

What an excellent idea :D even if it was a small say, A5 6/10 pages of this sort of information, that could be updated say, every year. It would really be handy :D "the quick reference rabbit handbook" :D It would be ideal, especially when dealing with not so good vets. All proceeds to RR :D

What a good idea Julie :D
