Buns eating habits

Steve m

Young Bun
We have two polar opposites one of our two will graze whenever food is put down and take her time and come back to her bowl when she's ready whilst the other will chow down and not come up for air until his bowl is empty then go on the lookout for more. Is this typical of some breeds?

Rabbits should eat their Pellets straightaway then go on to graze on their Hay. This is the norm. They can spend hours chewing their Hay. :thumb:

Buttons has always eaten some nuggets when put down for her then moves bowl away with her teeth to tell us she's had enough for now. Then she will usually finished them off later. She's the same with her greens too. Whereas like I said bumble will not come up for air until every last drop has gone

Lopsy has always wolfed anything down at first sight, even on his own, and will always go for the tastiest thing first if there's a choice and eat as much of it as possible. Both Aboleth and Chibbs came from places they were kept singly and Lopsy used to get more than his fair share because they were, at first, OK with eating a few pellets and then wandering off for a change. They'd never needed to eat it all in one go so they didn't bother. Aboleth caught on after a couple of days and became just as food-oriented as Lopsy, whereas Chibbs (probably because she'd been a single bun for longer before coming here) is happy with what's in front of her and not massively fussed about pellets all the time (I think that's why Lopsy likes her more ). She learnt to eat them when out in front if her within a couple of weeks, and she's got the hanfg of most of the rest of the feeding routine, but she's stil just not as fussed about food as Lopsy XD
