vet changes

Gutted. Called my rabbit vet practice of 27 years to book J B & M in for vaccs & reviews of Mouse n Boo's Should have been there 2 weeks ago but car wouldn't go. That was resolved quickly with new battery but then we lost Rudey & my head was up my bum (was :?) - plus didn't really want to stress a grieving Mouse with travel & vacs.

Just called them & got v snotty receptionist (I think) & request appointments with Becky. Told I get pot luck, no way of saying who I get on any given day. Told cos of Booblys history would really like to see Becky for continuity. told well you won't get that as she is leaving Wed. Permanently? Yes. So it will be just Allison working? No. So who else is working. Paul. (I get grumpy at this point). Squeeze a second name out of her Harris. Anyone know of a vet paul Harris.

Don't know whether to scream or cry. Wheres Heather & Ruth - why new vet.

I was counting on a vet that knows Mouse to assess if she is in a good place for bonding too :(

 I would be stressed and upset by this too. It might be worth finding out where Becky has gone in case you can follow her? I followed my goat vet from one practice to his new practice.

Hugs xx

Oh no, that's really gutting [emoji17] I felt the same when my trusted vet left the practice. She didn't particularly specialise in rabbits but I'd built a special relationship with her, she knew my bunnies well and was very proactive when it came to treatment. She always wanted to get to the bottom of issues and was very quick to consult with or refer them to the specialists when she wasn't sure of anything. I haven't even met the new vet (she's always away whenever I've taken my two in). Her bio says her main interest is in geriatric cats. Have no idea how bunny savvy she is. Oh well, at least I have the RVC to fall back on.

I've not heard of Paul Harris. Maybe time for a bit of online vet stalking?

I hate that happening. I would try and have a telephone "consultation" with her to find out where she is off to and if there is anyone else you can trust with a rabbit left at the practice.

A relationship with a vet is so important, you need to be able to trust what they are telling you.

Oh God, I had no idea Becky was leaving. That is a massive, massive blow. I knew they had a vacancy advertised but assumed that was just because Heather was going part-time after her maternity leave. It will be a really big deal for the practice as Becky has been learning orthopaedics off Nigel for the last year so they would have had more scope for doing orthopaedic surgery (the money earner) whilst Heather is part-time.

I'm making a guess that most of the staff are furloughed so only 5 of them have been working, losing one full-time vet at his point is ... well, disastrous. I'm worried frankly that they are going to struggle to survive the effects of Covid 19.

Things were looking up when Becky joined them ....

Can you ask to speak with the Practice Manager ? I would do so and explain :

1- How upset you were by the attitude of the Receptionist you spoke with

2- That whilst you fully understand the current difficult situation Vets are having to work in with regards to how Consultations are carried out, you are now very anxious about the continuity of care your Rabbits will receive given the imminent departure of a Vet you had come to trust.

3- I would go on to say that it is important to me (you) that any Vet treating my(your) Rabbits is 'Rabbit Savvy' and if this is not the case then you would like to know in order for you to be able to look into making alternative arrangements. You could sugar coat this bit with how great you have always found the treatment given by Heather and Becky and that you are appreciative of it. But as both are now no longer going to be available you do need to make sure that any new Vet has experience in the treatment of Rabbits and their complex needs.

At a time like this the last you need is the stress of not having reliable Vet Care.

Also, maybe you could do a bit of 'InMorseigating' to see if either Heather or Rebecca have moved to another local Practice. They wont have been allowed to tell their current clients, but that does not mean the clients cant do a bit of snooping ........................

As I am about to do re ' Paul Harris MRCVS' !

eta- Just read BB's post and seen that Heather is on Maternity leave, so if she does actually return to work she will at least be about for some of the time.

Argh, gutted for you :( I'd do something similar to what Jane has suggested with emphasis on being super pleasant, appreciative of past treatment from Heather and Becky, long-standing customer and understanding of current situation.

Thanks guys. Yeah I may have got the practice manager ! My hope is Heather & Ruth furloughed & will be back - but if no intention of that there seems little point sticking round there. Ruth is my first choice vet but i had faith in Heather & Becky too. Its just all 3 of em not being accessible

There is a Paul Harris, Vet showing up on Linked In as being at Bishopton Vets.... this would suggest they have 'borrowed' him from Bishopton. I can't find him on their website though. He qualified in 1988 which bodes well as having a bit of experience at least. He's not on the vets page on their website but there is reference to a Paul Harris here:

http://www.bishoptonvets.co.uk/northallerton-3/

So maybe he has jumped ship from Bishopton to CLV...

I can't get my head round that she's leaving  She's only been there 18 months. The only think that kept me sane when Lolly was dying was that Becky was trying to save her. God, this is going to take a while for my head to process.

Did you book, J&B or were you put off?!

Anton Vets (John Chitty) have taken the decision to close permanently the satellite practice they had in a village so now only have main one in Andover.

I did not book, I said I would call back when I've had a think

me neither. I dunno what to do, my problem solving skills are esp rubbish at mo. Its not singularly Becky for me, its like losing Becky, Heather & Ruth. My last attempt at trusting a new Crab Lane vet did not go well.

Ruth and Heather are (I believe) just furloughed though so could be back at any time. I'm guessing it's childcare at the moment that keeps them furloughed. It was going so well - Ruth 2 days a week; Heather 2 different days a week and Becky covering 4 days - rabbit vet in every weekday. It's been so long since we had that.
