Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald patch

Nontobeko

New Kit
Hi. I was just checking my rabbit over and noticed she has a big bald patch down below by her bum.
Smudge is 16 weeks old as is fine in herself. I can't see any more bald patches on her.
What do I do?

Welcome

I'm no expert but I think Smudge is a he. He'd be about the right age for testicles to drop. You might want to consider neutering him in the near future

Would this explain the baldness? Do I need Smudge checked at vets?

Smudge is a Buck (male) what you can see are his testicles. I would take your Rabbit to your Vet to arrange having him neutered. As Rabbits are very social animals they are generally happiest if they have a companion of their own kind. Neutering makes it possible for a Buck to live with a Rabbit friend/friends Are you in the UK ? If so Smudge will also need two seperate Vaccinations to protect him from three very nasty and potentially fatal viruses, Myxomatosis, RHD1 and RHD2.

Thank you. I got Smudge from Pets at home and they were positive that Smudge was a girl. He was vaccined as came with a free vaccine voucher.
I know rabbits are social but Smudge had been on been on his own for a while and I was told would be ok to just have one rabbit esp as was going to be an indoor one and as going to get lots of fuss and attention.
I've got friends who just have and have always just had one rabbit and they've been fine.

Sadly Pets at home are none too reliable when it comes to sexing rabbits,he's still young at 16 weeks, and those look like testicles to me,my Bridge boy Rio had lovely pink plums pre neuter.
