Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Swollen genital/vulva?

Hi, can anyone help or advice with this please. Female bunny, 1 year old. Not neutered. Genital area looks swollen. Very noticeable. Not sore or red. No signs of being unhappy. Eating and drinking fine. Plenty of exercise and lively. Not sure whether she is just in season, ready to mate? We have two rabbits and other is fine. Genital area covered under fur like normal.

She needs to be examined by a Vet

Are you in the UK ?

Has she had any direct contact with other Rabbits ?

Is she exhibiting any nesting behaviour ?

Is she fully vaccinated (against Myxomatosis, RHD1 and RHD2 ) ??

Hi, yes in the UK. No acting completely normal. Yes vaccinated for both. Lives with just her mother. Quite lively last night. Swelling has gone down slightly and believe she is feeling ready to mate.

Are you planning on getting her spayed ? Or are you going to breed from her ?

Spayed likely but not breeding her no. Was just curious if anything to worry about with all signs that she's fine, just probably in season

Rabbits dont come into season, they are induced ovulators. They ovulate in the presence of an entire buck (his smell and behaviour) and also if 'dominance mounted' by another Rabbit of either gender. So it may be that her mother has been dominance mounting her.

The first time we saw any mounting was last night. It was the young one trying to mount the mother. The younger is the one with the swelling.

Do you mean she is vaccinated against all three? When did she have the vaccinations?
