Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Best thing to use for bum bath?

So since Peanut had some teeth out and got neutered, she hasn't been grooming her bum area much if at all.

I'm going to ATTEMPT to give her a cleaning!

Can someone recommend either a good brand of pet or baby shampoo, please? I've also seen people say about cornstarch but I think this may require some washing at the hair is quite matted!

Thank you!

If really needed, I tend to use a small amount of diluted dog shampoo as I already have a gallon of it. Human shampoo is a different pH to animal shampoo - although I have used Johnson's baby shampoo before.

You need a minimal amount of wetting and a quick towel dry. I run some warm soapy water in my bathroom sink and dunk the rear end in, then repeat with clean water to rinse.
If you don't need a proper dunking, a wet flannel / microfibre cloth and a bowl of warm water to hand will probably do.

Thank you! Is this any particular type of Johnson's? I've seen a hypoallergenic one?

If you are going to buy some anyway, I would get an animal shampoo. Use it diluted rather than squirt it on the fur. It will do a better job and be easier to rinse out.

Brill, thank you! I've seen that Johnson's do an animal one so hopefully that will be okay!

It looks like there is a small animal one and a new honey one.

As an aside, I use the evening primrose one for the dogs as I love the smell and I buy it by the gallon as the little bottles only do the dogs a couple if times.
